Hitting the reset button

This week I will have completed my 7th hike in 7 weeks.

Perhaps the COVID situation and lack of routine, especially in regards to the structure of office life has left me deflated. Either that or I now have more excess energy to pursue things on the weekend. The motivation to leave the house an interact with others is also becoming more apparent.

Over the years I have been winding back my dependence on passive entertainment, including social media. I have strict time limits on place for Facebook browsing, and have blocking software on my phone. I do not miss it one iota when out of the house.

I have come to a point in my life that I cannot just keep relying on the same diet of electronic entertainment passively dished up. What worked in my 20’s and 30’s seems soulless, debased and unfulfilling.

To end the year I will be hiking Mount Kosciuosko with a group of 20 people. I expect it will be challenging, though I am more than ready for a new adventure and meeting new people. ‘Comfort is the enemy of progress’. Sacrifice a sleep in, travel some distance, put yourself out there. Make memories, make new friends. There is a world out there to explore!
